Fancy a little cultural and calm escape after walking the streets of Paris ? Let yourself live the romantic life of 19th century French capital. The museum is just 15 minutes walking from the hotel !

“Paris, city of love”… maybe a bit cliché but we are definitely romantic here !!! So what’s better than a cultural visit to the “musée de la vie romantique”? The original building was the house of the dutch painter Ary Scheffer, who decided to organize here an artistic, political and literary very intense activity, inviting all the important figures of arts in Paris 19th century. His heirs kept this cultural heritage and when it became a property of the State un 1956, the City of Paris made it an outbuilding of the Musée Carnavalet, before it became the Musée de la Vie Romantique in 1987.

In this museum, you’ll learn about Ary Scheffer’s life, true figure of this incubator of artists at that time, a neighborhood which used to be called “the new Athens”. You’ll also find several rooms devoted to George Sand. The female writer lived in the district and has left her mark on her time with her feminist and political commitments. Finally, the museum also shows a nice collection of prints, manuscripts and photographs by Ernest Renan, who met his future wife here, Cornélie Scheffer, the painter’s niece.
