Where to swim this summer in Paris?

This summer, most of the excitement will be around the 2024 Olympics, but that doesn't mean you can't take advantage of the summer season to cool off and relax!

Although the Seine was recently inaugurated by the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, for the time being it will only be accessible to athletes during the Olympic events. However, the city of Paris aims to open the river to the public by 2025. In the meantime, here is a selection of places where you can swim this summer.

CANAL SAINT-MARTIN (10e)

Summer swimming is back this year at the Canal Saint-Martin. A supervised and secure facility, set up as part of Paris plage, is located at the Bassin des Récollets (116/126 quai de Jemmapes, 10th arrondissement). Every Sunday from 7 July to 1 September 2024, from 1pm to 5pm, you'll be able to cool off for free.

 

BASSIN DE LA VILLETTE (19e)

As an extension of the Paris Plage scheme, there is also a swimming area at the Bassin de la Villette in the 19th arrondissement. With free access, the organisers are providing changing rooms, showers, toilets, sunbeds and parasols. Open 7 days a week from 6 July to Sunday 8 September 2024, from 11am to 8pm.

 

PISCINE JOSÉPHINE BAKER (13e)

An aquatic area right on the Seine! The Joséphine-Baker pool is one of 39 municipal pools in Paris. Its floating structure, placed directly on the water, plunges you into a unique atmosphere right in the heart of Paris. Admission is €3.50 for individuals and €2 for concessions. Open 7/7 at the following times: 7-9am / 10-1.30pm / 2-5.30pm / 6-9.30pm.

 

PISCINE PONTOISE (5e)

Designed in the 1930s, this swimming pool with its fabulous Art Deco architecture is located in the heart of the Latin Quarter in the 5th arrondissement. It is part of the Espace Sportif Pontoise, which also has a fitness centre and squash courts. Admission to the aquatic centre is €5.20. For opening times, click here : www.paris.fr

 

PISCINE DE LA BUTTE AUX CAILLES (13e)

Immerse yourself in the charm of the 1920s with this Art Nouveau-style swimming pool, listed as a historic monument. In addition to the indoor pool, the Butte-aux-cailles swimming pool also has an outdoor pool. Admission costs €2. For opening times, click here : www.paris.fr
